Description

Toshiba 3000 SP Series UPS

Powering Tomorrow With Modular Precision and Reliability

The 3000 SP Series is a next-generation, true on-line, double-conversion UPS built for small and mid-size critical loads — server rooms, edge cabinets, manufacturing cells, and the equipment rooms that keep a building running.

What sets it apart is the rack itself. Eight universal slots accept either a power module or a battery module, and you decide the split. Need capacity? Load it with power modules. Need runtime? Trade slots the other way. The same 30U cabinet covers both jobs.

The Eight-Slot Architecture

This is the part worth understanding before you spec anything else.

The 3000 SP has eight universal slots. Every slot takes a 6 kVA/kW hot-swappable power module or a hot-swappable battery module, and the allocation is yours to make. Capacity scales in 6 kVA increments from 6 to 24 kVA.

Configuration Power modules Battery slots remaining
6 kVA/kW 1 7
12 kVA/kW 2 6
18 kVA/kW 3 5
24 kVA/kW 4 4

At a one-to-one ratio — one battery module per power module — the system delivers approximately 7 minutes of runtime at 100% load. Every slot you don’t spend on capacity is a slot you can spend on runtime.

That framing matters when you’re sizing. A 12 kVA load with six battery slots available is a very different system from a 24 kVA load with four. Both fit in the same cabinet, draw on the same modules, and get serviced the same way — but they answer different questions. Tell us which question you’re answering and we’ll size the split.

Redundancy works the same way. N+X redundancy means you can populate an extra power module beyond what the load requires. An 18 kW load carried by four modules is N+1, and the system keeps running if any one module fails.

Why the 3000 SP Series

Unity Power Factor — kVA Equals kW

A 24 kVA rating is 24 kW of real, usable output. There’s no derating penalty and no oversizing to compensate for a 0.8 or 0.9 power factor, which means the capacity you specify is the capacity you can actually put to work. For modern IT loads with active power factor correction, this is the difference between a system that fits and one that doesn’t.

True Online Double-Conversion, VFI

The load runs off the inverter continuously. Incoming disturbances — sags, surges, frequency drift, harmonics — are isolated at the rectifier and never reach the connected equipment. Voltage and Frequency Independent (VFI) operation is the strictest classification in IEC 62040-3, and it’s what you want on anything that can’t tolerate a transfer.

ECO Mode Reaches Up to 98%

For sites where the utility is clean and the savings matter more than continuous conditioning, ECO Mode powers the load directly from the mains and lifts efficiency to as much as 98%. If the mains fail, the UPS takes over and the load stays up.

In full online double-conversion, AC-AC efficiency runs greater than 89% at 25% and 50% load, and greater than 91% at 75% and 100% load. Worth knowing up front: this is a small-frame system optimized for flexibility and footprint, not a 96%-class large-frame UPS. If double-conversion efficiency is the primary driver on a larger load, that’s a different conversation — ask us about the 3000 TP Series.

50/60 Hz Frequency Converter

Output frequency can be locked at 50 Hz or 60 Hz regardless of input, which makes the 3000 SP a genuine frequency converter for imported machinery and frequency-sensitive equipment. Input accepts 60/50 Hz ±10%; output is auto-sensing or user-selectable.

3:1 Crest Factor

Rated for a 3:1 crest factor, the inverter handles the peaky, non-linear current draw of switch-mode power supplies without derating. Voltage THD stays under 4% at 100% linear load and under 5% at 100% non-linear load.

Serviceability

Hot-swappable, both kinds of module. Power modules and battery modules can be replaced without interrupting the load. A power module is 39 lbs; a battery module is 134 lbs — plan lifting accordingly on the battery side.

Advanced safety hardware. A backfeed contactor and terminal block are fitted as standard for secure, code-compliant connections and protection against backfeed to the utility during bypass conditions.

Overload capability that buys you time. The inverter carries 100–110% for 30 minutes, 111–130% for 5 minutes, 131–148% for 10 seconds, 150% for 6 seconds, and 155% for 1 second — enough headroom for motor starts and inrush without dropping to bypass.

NEMA 1 enclosure on castors and leveling feet, sized at 23.6 × 41.2 × 58.0 inches. Note the clearance requirements: 40 inches front, 20 inches top, 20 inches rear, and 0 inches at the sides. This system needs rear access — plan the room accordingly.

Monitoring and Control

10-Inch HMI LCD Touch Panel

A full-size touchscreen for local monitoring, operation, and control — single-line system view, module status, load and battery metering, and event history, all readable from standing distance in front of the cabinet.

RemotEye® 5 IIoT Network Card

Embedded as standard. The RemotEye® 5 operates on LAN or WAN and integrates with the industrial protocols already running in your building, so the UPS reports into the management system you have rather than requiring a new one.

  • Embedded web server
  • Built-in AI for system oversight
  • Webhook notifications
  • Automated email notifications
  • Continuous data logging
  • Modbus TCP/RTU, BACnet/IP, SNMP, and HTTPS

BACnet/IP support in particular is worth flagging if the UPS needs to report into a building management system — it’s not universal at this frame size.

Additional interfaces: dry contacts, RS232 (included), EPO, and USB.

Applications

  • Edge Data Centers — Compact footprint, N+X redundancy, remote visibility into unstaffed sites
  • IT Systems & Server Rooms — Unity PF headroom and 3:1 crest factor for modern server loads
  • Small & Mid-Size Business — Enterprise-grade protection scaled honestly to a 6 or 12 kW load
  • Manufacturing — Frequency conversion, high overload tolerance, Modbus integration on the plant floor
  • Commercial Facilities — BACnet/IP reporting into existing building management systems

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I mix power and battery modules however I want? Yes, within the eight slots. Capacity comes in 6 kVA increments to a maximum of 24 kVA, so at full capacity you’ll be running four power modules and have four slots left for batteries.

How much runtime do I actually get? Roughly 7 minutes at full load with a one-to-one power-to-battery ratio. Adding battery modules in the remaining slots extends that. If you need more than a few minutes, the right answer is usually a generator with the UPS carrying the transfer — tell us the target and we’ll model it.

What input voltage does it need? Two-phase plus neutral and ground, at either 240/120 V or 208/120 V. Note that this is a low-voltage system — it does not accept 480 V.

Can it convert frequency? Yes. Output can be locked at 50 Hz or 60 Hz independent of the input frequency.

Does it report into a building management system? Yes. The embedded RemotEye® 5 card supports Modbus TCP/RTU, BACnet/IP, SNMP, and HTTPS.

How much clearance does it need? 40 inches at the front, 20 inches at the top, and 20 inches at the rear. Sides can be zero. This unit does require rear access.

Are the modules field-replaceable? Yes, and hot-swappable — both power and battery modules can be changed without dropping the load.

What’s the warranty? Three years.
